about

J. Hillis Miller, who died recently at the age of 92, was the leading Victorian critic and literary theory specialist of his generation. He was also a major influence on literary criticism and theory, and his legacy will be long lasting.

He was also a generous and kind mentor, and someone I was proud to call a friend. I first met Hillis when I was a graduate student at the University of Southern California, and I went to hear him lecture at the University of California, Irvine.

This album, five tracks, is an elegy and requiem for Hillis. The titles of the tracks are taken from his books. The title of this album is a line from a poem by Wallace Steven, one of Miller's favourite poets.

It is free to download for the first 48 hours of its release.
